Terms of Service

1. The service

Frim Sidekick is a French reading-comprehension library for Canadian French Immersion students in Grades 4 through 6, with comprehension quizzes for children and English discussion guides for parents.

2. Accounts

You must be 18 or older and the parent or legal guardian of any child you add to your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account, including activity by child profiles you create. Keep your password and your children's PINs to yourself.

3. Parental consent

By creating a child profile you confirm that you have parental authority over that child and that you consent, under Alberta PIPA, to our collection and use of the limited information described in our Privacy Policy.

4. Subscriptions and billing

Some features require a paid subscription. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel from your account at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not provide refunds for partial periods except where required by law.

5. Content and acceptable use

The passages, illustrations, audio, quizzes, and parent guides in Frim Sidekick are licensed to you for personal, single-household, home use only. You may print parent guides for your own family members while using the service at home. Classroom, school, and institutional use are not permitted at this time.

You may not redistribute, resell, display, or use the content for any commercial purpose, or use it to train AI systems. Don't try to break, scrape, or reverse engineer the service, or use it in a way that could harm other users.

6. AI-generated content and parental supervision

The reading passages, illustrations, audio, quizzes, and parent guides on Frim Sidekick are created in collaboration with AI services and reviewed by our team before publication. Every reasonable attempt is made to ensure accuracy and age-appropriate content, but AI-assisted material may still contain errors, omissions, or content that is not suited to every child.

We make no warranty as to the accuracy, completeness, or appropriateness of any passage, illustration, quiz, or guide, and we accept no liability for the content or its effect on any child. Parents and legal guardians are ultimately responsible for what their child reads on Frim Sidekick and must supervise their child's use of the service. If you find content that is inaccurate or inappropriate, please tell us so we can review and update it.

6a. AI is a content tool, not a decision-maker

AI on Frim Sidekick is used to generate content only. It is not used to assess, evaluate, or make decisions about a child. There are no chatbots, AI tutors, or any other tools that allow a child to have a two-way conversation with an AI. Children do not interact with AI while using the platform.

Reading levels, learning goals, and any progress tracking are set and managed by parents. AI does not determine a child's reading level, recommend a level based on behaviour, or adapt content in real time based on a child's performance. Any recommendations shown to parents are based on straightforward, parent-controlled rules.

7. Termination

You can delete your account at any time from Account & privacy. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

8. Disclaimer and liability

The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable there.

French syllable and pronunciation data used in our decoding and vocabulary tools is derived from Lexique.org, licensed under Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0. Definitions, audio, and vocabulary illustrations are generated by AI services and reviewed by our team before publication.
